General Dynamics to Support Aegis
Ballistic Missile Defense Program
FAIRFAX, Va.–
The U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has awarded General
Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:
GD), a contract to provide program management and administrative support as
well as technical services and systems engineering to the Aegis Ballistic
Missile Defense Program Directorate (PD-452). The total potential value of
the contract if all options are exercised is $41.8 million over a 12-month
period of performance.
“This contract confirms General Dynamics’ ability to perform above and beyond
what is necessary to help the Navy accomplish ballistic missile mission
objectives,” stated Jerry Nittle, senior vice president at General Dynamics
Information Technology. “We are pleased that NAVSEA trusts General Dynamics
to continue to provide the expertise to ensure that U.S. Navy systems
function successfully in support of missile defense.”
With the help of General Dynamics, PD-452 will support the execution of the
overall Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) mission through test and
evaluation planning and coordination, test range support, modeling and
simulation and Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers
and Intelligence (BMC4I) planning. The BMD component of the Missile Defense
Agency (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System gives the U.S. Navy Aegis
destroyers and cruisers the capability to intercept and defeat medium-range
to long-range ballistic missiles.
PD-452 serves as the primary U.S. Navy management structure supporting the
interface between the MDA and NAVSEA. General Dynamics will provide PD-452
with the necessary technical and engineering support for advanced hardware
and software solutions. General Dynamics and PD-452 will also aid in
maintaining the international cooperative missile defense development project
between Japan and the U.S.
The contract was awarded in the name of Anteon, which was acquired by General
Dynamics in June 2006.
